Tampa Bay History Center

801 Water Street, Tampa, FL 33602

“Beginning with a look at Florida’s first peoples, who inhabited the peninsula some 10,000 years ago, and the arrival of European explorers in the 1500s, to Tampa Bay’s modern role as a port city, industrial capital of west central Florida and a draw for tourists and visitors the world over, the History Center tells the story of Tampa Bay’s and Florida’s history, heritage and culture.

Henry B. Plant Museum

401 W. Kennedy Boulevard, Tampa, FL 33606

“Since 1933, the Tampa Bay Hotel has been home to the Henry B. Plant Museum and The University of Tampa. The building, renamed Plant Hall, is a National Historic Landmark. The Henry B. Plant Museum holds the distinction of accreditation by the American Alliance of Museums. Its mission is to interpret the history and lifestyle of America’s Gilded Age and the life and significant contributions of Henry Bradley Plant to the development of Florida and Tampa Bay. Original furnishings and artifacts and a dynamic self-guided audio tour immerse visitors in the opulence of the 1891 Tampa Bay Hotel and its rich history.

The building was bought by the city in 1904 after the death of Henry Plant in 1899. It operated as a hotel until 1932. In 1933, the Tampa Municipal Museum was established in the south wing of the first floor in order to preserve the legacy of the Tampa Bay Hotel. The remainder of the building, as well as the property, became home to The University of Tampa. The Museum houses original Hotel furnishings and art objects collected by Mr. and Mrs. Plant from Europe and the Orient. The Tampa Municipal Museum became the Henry B. Plant Museum in 1974. Since then, its mission has been to interpret the Tampa Bay Hotel at the turn-of-the-century and the Victorian lifestyles of America’s Gilded Age for people of all ages, backgrounds, and levels of interest. The Museum seeks to transport the visitor through educational exhibits and events to the late Victorian period, the beginning of Florida’s tourist industry, and the early years of the city of Tampa.”

The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art

150 Central Avenue, St. Petersburg, FL 33701

“The James Museum has its roots in the deeply felt passion for art and culture shared by co-founders Tom and Mary James, and in the couple’s love for St. Petersburg, the city where they live.

Years ago, when their travels took them out West, they were captivated by the art, landscape and wildlife. The art of action and attention to place created by contemporary artists greatly moved them, and they began buying pieces not only for their personal pleasure, but also to help the artists earn a living. These two dedicated patrons of the arts collected works in oil, in ink, in stone; works that define genres yet defy labels; works that evoke the spirit of a wide open frontier and the beauty of life in the wild. Since their first acquisition, a vast artistic legacy has grown — one populated by emerging artists and living legends and filled with tribal tradition and classical finesse.

In building this splendid home for a part of their vast personal collection of Western and wildlife art, Tom and Mary also have succeeded in their aim to share their vision and devotion to art with you and thousands of others.”

Through its exhibitions, programs, and expanding collection of 20th and 21st century art, the museum strives to engage and inspire our diverse community by providing opportunities for education, enlightenment, interpretation, and research to students, scholars, and visitors.”

Tampa Firefighters Museum

720 Zack Street, Tampa, FL 33602

“Built in 1911, this building served as headquarters for the Tampa Fire Department until 1974 when the building across the street was dedicated.

During its active service years, this building presided over the 63 year transformation from horse-drawn apparatus to diesel powered rescue and firefighting vehicles. Stables were removed and bay doors were enlarged for larger and larger vehicles. Some of the worst fires in Tampa’s history were fought by dedicated firefighters rushing out of this building.

After its active service years, the building was used as storage and office space for city programs. Realizing the importance of preserving Tampa’s fire service history, a group of citizens began a 10 year project of raising funds to restore the building and open the Museum. That the Museum is open today is a testament to the persistent hard work and determination of a handful of citizens and firefighters.”

Check often for special events, programming updates and news on the many exciting activities that the Museum and Society plan for you. Education and research tools help active learners, teachers and students learn more about the role Ybor City played in Tampa’s development and its reputation as the “Cigar Capital of the World.” To help preserve this legacy and ensure that it is available for future generations, we urge you to get involved by becoming a member, volunteer or donor.”

Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum

2240 9th Ave S, St Petersburg, FL 33712

“The history of African Americans in the St. Petersburg community and throughout the African Diaspora will be the central focus of programming at the Dr. Carter G. Woodson African American Museum. The Museum serves to preserve this rich history for present and future generations of St. Petersburg residents and visitors to St. Petersburg.

African Americans have played a crucial role in the growth and development of St. Petersburg since the late 1800s. The first African Americans came to this area seeking work. Many of the early migrants worked on the Orange Belt Railroad and other emerging enterprises. As St. Petersburg grew into a major tourist destination, more employment opportunities opened for these early residents. Settling near the downtown area to be near jobs and the railroad, African Americans established neighborhoods and the community grew, establishing independent institutions. In spite of segregation and discrimination, the area thrived culturally.”

Best Take Out and Delivery Food in Clearwater Beach

Best Take Out and Delivery Food Clearwater Beach

Clearwater Beach is filled with restaurants with great views, fun atmospheres, and delicious food. But it’s not always easy to eat out. You may be visiting Clearwater Beach during a busy time of year and have don’t want to wait for a table, or maybe you’re traveling with young kids or even infants who have very early bedtimes. All the beachfront condos in Surfside Condominiums and The Villas of Clearwater Beach have full-size kitchens, but just because you can cook doesn’t mean you always want to! Sometimes some delicious take out or delivery food is exactly what you need! Here’s some of the best take out and delivery food in Clearwater Beach!

Pearly’s Beach Eats

45 Papaya Street, Clearwater Beach, FL 33767 | 727-223-9955

A great menu filled with Salads, Tacos, Bowls, Burritos, Burgers, and more! I love their Blackend Fish Tacos and their Beef Burrito, both served with some delicious chips and salsa!

This small restaurant is excellent for call-in orders and quick take out times!

Frenchy’s Original Cafe

41 Baymont Street, Clearwater Beach, FL 33767 | 727-446-3607

While you’ll see the Frenchy’s name across several restaurants, shops, fishing fleets, and even a hotel in the Clearwater Beach area – Frenchy’s Original Cafe is where it all started back in 1981! Frenchy’s Cafe is known for its delicious Grouper Sandwich! Add some Buffalo Shrimp, and you’ll be eating my favorite Clearwater Beach meal! The small cafe can fill up very quickly, but you can get the food to go or get it delivered by ordering through DoorDash!

Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill & Bar

10 Bay Esplanade, Clearwater Beach, FL 33767 | 727-446-2642

Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill & Bar sits right on the beach with beautiful sunset views, live music, and delicious food and drinks! That said, it can be busy with long wait times for tables. That said, they have a huge kitchen and can have to go orders ready to pick up very quickly! Call in an order and take it back to your beachfront condo! You’ll have delicious food and a private sunset view!

If seafood isn’t for you, check out their St. Louis BBQ Smoked Ribs! I’m a harsh judge for ribs (and I live in St. Louis), and I still highly recommend these!

Cooters Restaurant & Bar

423 Poinsettia Ave, Clearwater Beach, FL 33767 | 727-462-2668

A great sports-themed bar/restaurant with great happy hour specials! Cooters is a place that I would usually recommend going to for all you can eat crab legs on Monday and Tuesday or all you can eat Fish and Chips on Wednesday every week! But there’s so much more on Cooters delicious menu! They have amazing Hot Crabby Shrimp Dip, She Crab Soup, and fantastic hot wings!

Their hot wings are so good that I’ve been known to complicate a take our dinner by adding multiple stops – Cooters hot wings to go with some local pizza! Speaking of pizza…

Samgelo’s Pizza

650 Mandalay Ave, Clearwater Beach, FL 33767 | 727-447-2020

Samgelo’s Pizza is located at the top of the street from Surfside Condos (only one block over from the Villas of Clearwater Beach). It offers delicious pizza – thin crust, original crust, pan crust even gluten-free options! Quick delicious pizza only steps away and also offering delivery!

Tan’s Chinese Restaurant

432 Poinsettia Ave, Clearwater Beach, FL 33767 | 727-447-3663

When it comes to delivery/to-go food, Chinese food often comes to mind, and Tan’s Chinese Restaurant on Clearwater Beach has you covered!

Clearwater Beach in One Day

Clearwater Beach in One Day

There’s so much to do when visiting Clearwater Beach that you can easily stay for a week or even longer. But, if all you have is a single day, here’s how to maximize your time on Clearwater Beach, Florida!

Morning in Clearwater Beach

If you’re visiting Clearwater Beach for a single day, the first thing you’ll need to figure out is how to get there and where to park when you do! You can avoid the crowded parking and frequent traffic jams headed to the island by parking in Downtown Clearwater and taking the Clearwater Ferry! Keep up with their routes and schedules on their website or the app (available in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store).

Taking the Clearwater Ferry not only helps you avoid traffic and parking issues and gives you an opportunity to squeeze a fun boat ride in for your day in Clearwater Beach. I suggest taking the Purple Line leaving from Downtown Clearwater and exiting at North Beach.

If you arrive in North Clearwater Beach in the morning and need breakfast, there are some great places nearby! Within a few blocks, you’ll be able to find Clear Sky Cafe (with a Bloody Mary bar on the weekends), Another Broken Egg Cafe, and Beach Fire Beach Bar & Grille!

After Breakfast, head out to the beach! You’re only steps away from the soft white sand that Clearwater Beach is known for. If you took the Clearwater Ferry to North Beach, you’re in a great area! North Beach is less crowded than South Beach and still has many great restaurants and shops nearby!

When finding a spot on North Beach, look between Sandpearl Resort and Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill & Bar. This area is right next to the breakfast locations mentioned before, a short walk to many stores and great restaurants, and has Clearwater Beach Lifeguards in the area. Being next to the Lifeguards will make it easy to keep an eye on any changing weather conditions or other things to keep an eye on. The Lifeguard stations will be flying flags that mark the conditions on the beach and in the Gulf of Mexico.

Afternoon in Clearwater Beach

After hanging out on the beach for a few hours, you may be interested in some lunch. Keep the great views going and grab lunch right on the beach at Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill or Palm Pavilion Beachside Grill & Bar. If you’re looking for a break from the sun and maybe even some air conditioning, you can grab a delicious Grouper Sandwich at Frenchy’s Original Cafe or head down to Jimmy Hula’s only blocks away!

After lunch, you can stop in at some of the nearby storefronts for a little bit of retail therapy, or even just to pick up some extra sunscreen or beach toys! You can find some great stores nearby like Surf Style, Freaky Tiki Surf Shack, Hulk Hogan’s Beach Shop or just a CVS to pick up an item you’re missing.

After lunch and a quick shopping trip, it’s time to enjoy more of the warm sun! Head back to the beach and enjoy more time in the ocean! If you’re nervous about swimming in the Gulf of Mexico you can also stop by the Clearwater Beach Community Pool that features a 6 lane Junior Olympic size swimming pool and an area for kids with a water slide shaped like a frog, squirting water jets, a mushroom-shaped waterfall and more! In addition to the pool you can also find tennis, basketball and pickleball courts!

Evening in Clearwater Beach

After a wonderful afternoon at the beach, pool or playing on the courts; it’s time to start thinking about some sunset fun!

The order of your evening plans may change based on what time of year it is and what time sunset is. During the summer, sunset is later in the day and may one to grab dinner first. During the winter, the sunset is quite a bit earlier and you’ll most likely want to grab dinner after seeing the sunset.

One of the best places to watch a Clearwater Beach sunset is at Pier 60’s Daily Sunset Festival! In addition to a beautiful sunset; Pier 60 offers a great area for kids to play, shopping from local artists and crafters directly on the pier and some great shows by street performers.

The daily sunset festival starts 2 hours before sunset and ends 2 hours after sunset. This timing allows you to choose the best time to eat dinner either before or after the beautiful Clearwater Beach sunset! Pier 60 is located right in the center of Clearwater Beach and has many restaurants nearby including The Bait House Tackle & Tavern located in the Clearwater Beach Marina for some great outdoor dining!

Nearby Dinner Suggestions

  • The Bait House Tackle & Tavern
  • Marina Cantina
  • Crabby’s Dockside
  • Poke Havana
  • Badfins Food + Brew
  • Ocean Hai
  • Jimmy’s Crows Nest (appetizers and drinks)

Stick around the Pier 60 area after dinner and sunset for a free outdoor movie! Enjoy a free movie under the stars at Pier 60’s Sunset Cinema every Friday and Saturday night! View the schedule of what’s showing here.

Depending on the time you can grab one of the last Clearwater Ferry rides from The Clearwater Beach Marina (located across the street from Pier 60) back to Downtown Clearwater or you get back to your car by taking a short taxi, Uber or Lyft.

While you can pack a lot of fun into a single Clearwater Beach in one day trip, you’ll still be missing a ton of fun things to do! Despite being a small island, Clearwater Beach has so much to offer that you could easily spend a full week and even longer here and not see everything. If you need more time in Clearwater Beach, come stay in our beachfront condos at The Villas of Clearwater Beach or Surfside Condominiums. We offer large luxurious condos with private beachfront balconies, full kitchens, multiple bedrooms and bathrooms, swimming pools and more!

See what your beachfront view could be right now with our Live Clearwater Beach Webcam! Save the link and watch the sunset with us every night!

Tampa Bay Craft Beer

Tampa Bay Craft Beer

It’s hard to beat having a cold drink with a beautiful view. That’s what vacation is all about! Clearwater Beach provides the stunning vacation views, and there’s plenty of cold drinks in the area, from great wine shops to many Tampa Bay Craft Beer options!

Beach views and cold drinks go hand in hand, but keep in mind drinking on Clearwater Beach is illegal. Stay focused on drinking in places with beach views and not directly on Clearwater Beach. Many Clearwater Beach restaurants provide great beach views and extensive drink menus, but my favorite is sitting on the balcony of a beachfront condo and enjoying a local Tampa Bay craft beer.

Clearwater Craft Breweries

There are almost 100 unique craft breweries to visit in the Tampa Bay area. If you’re staying in Clearwater Beach, you’re only blocks away from Clearwater Social Brewing Company, located at 483 Mandalay Avenue. You can also find two more craft breweries in Clearwater, Florida. Southern Lights Brewing Company and Grindhaus Brew Lab are both located in Clearwater and only 20 minutes from Clearwater Beach.

Dunedin Craft Breweries

Dunedin, located just north of Clearwater Beach, is a great day trip location for those vacationing in Clearwater Beach. It’s a short drive to a beautiful town known for delicious food and eight local craft breweries! All eight craft breweries are located within walking distance for each other providing a safe way to try some local beer from each one! Walk between each brewery and travel between Clearwater Beach and Dunedin by using Jolley Trolly, the Clearwater Ferry, or grab a taxi/rideshare or sober driver! Stay safe!

Tampa Bay Craft Beer

In addition to the Clearwater area and a Craft Beer day trip to Dunedin, you can find Craft Breweries all over the Tampa Bay area. Some of the most popular areas outside of Dunedin are St. Petersburg, Ybor City and other areas in Tampa.

You can use The Brewery to see a full listing of Tampa Bay Craft Beers and breweries. Use The Brewery Bay website to find Tampa Bay Craft Breweries by location, food options, live music, kid-friendly, and even pet-friendly options!
