4 Day / Three Night Clearwater Beach Family Vacation Plans

When writing these Clearwater Beach family vacation tips, I will include more activities and places to eat than most families would use. Every family is different in what they like to do and eat. I will attempt to have something for everyone in these tips.

If you have any questions, please leave comments below. I will answer all questions as quickly as I can.

Day 1 – Clearwater Beach Family Vacation

Clearwater Beach Pizza Alba Pizza at Sunset

  • Arrive in Clearwater Beach
  • Lunch on the sand at Palm Pavilion or Frenchy’s Rockaway
  • Enjoy the beach and pool
  • Dinner from Alba’s Pizza
  • Sunset on the beach/balcony

When you arrive in the Clearwater Beach area, there are most likely two things on your mind – food and the beach! If it’s early enough for lunch, let’s combine both! I’d recommend stopping for a delicious lunch at Palm Pavilion or Frenchy’s Rockaway. Palm Pavilion and Frenchy’s Rockaway both offer delicious food, beautiful views, great drinks and oftentimes have live music – and they’re next door to each other! So if one has a long line, put your name on the list and check out how long the wait is at the other. If both have a wait, enjoy the sun and put your feet in the sand. Both restaurants are directly on the beach!

After lunch on the first day, it’s usually focused on the beach and pool. Enjoy the soft white sand, clear water, and calm waves. Go for a walk, build sand castles, search for sand dollars on the sandbar, or relax by the pool. For dinner, why leave the beach? Enjoy Alba Pizza! It’s only steps off the beach. Enjoy a quick, easy meal on a private balcony while watching the sunset!

Day 2 – Clearwater Beach Family Vacation

Clearwater Beach Paddleboarding

  • Breakfast at Ryan’s Island Cafe
  • Beach / Pool Day
  • Fishing, Kayaking, Paddleboarding, Jet ski Rentals
  • Lunch at Frenchy’s Original Cafe
  • Waterfront Sunset Dinner with live music and mini golf
  • Waterfront Dinner and sunset cruise

On day 2, your first full day of a Clearwater Beach family vacation, I’d start with a coffee and a walk on the beach if you’re an early riser. If you’re not, follow a walk on the beach with breakfast at Ryan’s Island Cafe. Ryan’s Island Cafe is a typical but very delicious breakfast diner right in the center of Clearwater Beach.

The whole day is all about soaking up that Florida sun! After breakfast, head to the beach, swim in the Gulf of Mexico, and relax by the pool. Not the sitting around type? There’s still plenty to do! You can head to the end of Pier 60 to go fishing (including gear rental), splash around with a jet ski, kayak, or my personal favorite – a paddleboard. All are available to be rented from several different locations around Clearwater Beach. When it comes to kayaking and paddleboarding, I’d recommend renting them from Clearwater Beach Paddleboard Company. They’ll get you set up quickly and easily, answer any questions you may have, and you’ll be able to cruise around the Intracoastal, where the water stays smooth throughout the day. If you’re up for it, paddle out to one of the small islands and enjoy your own tropical island like the photo above.

Whenever you’re ready for lunch, head to Frenchy’s Original Cafe for a delicious grouper sandwich or crabby shrimp sandwich. Frenchy’s Original also offers great burgers and other non-seafood options as well.

Later that evening, it’s time for some fun without missing the sunset and a delicious dinner. Depending on your family’s interests, here are two options – mini golf, or a sunset cruise.

If you’re interested in Captain Bligh’s mini golf, I’d pair that activity with dinner at Jimmy’s Fishhouse. They’re very close by each other and dinner at Jimmy’s Fishhouse comes with live music, and beautiful sunset views from Clearwater Pass.

Not a golfer and you’re more interested in being on the water? Grab dinner at Bait House and then head out for a sunset cruise. My favorite sunset cruises include Captain Memo’s Pirate Ship, Little Toot Dolphin Adventure, and Schooner Clearwater sailing cruise.

Day 3 – Clearwater Beach Family Vacation

Tarpon Springs Florida Hella's Restaurant at Sunset

  • Breakfast at Clear Sky Cafe
  • More Beach and Pool or other outdoor activities
  • Clearwater Marine Aquarium
  • Explore Nearby Areas such as Tarpon Springs, John’s Pass
  • Lunch in Tarpon Springs / John’s Pass
  • Souvenir Shopping Walk
  • Pier 60 Sunset and Shopping
  • Dinner at Crabby’s Hideaway

There’s a lot of delicious restaurants on Clearwater Beach, and one that I always have to recommend is Clear Sky Cafe for breakfast. The whole menu is great including breakfast, but starting a vacation day with a fantastic Blood Mary is hard to pass up.

Every day is a great day for the beach in my mind, but if you’re looking to explore there’s several great options near by. Closest to you is the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a rehabilitation focused aquarium. Their goal is to rescue, rehabilitate and then release the wildlife that can be seen when visiting the aquarium. When visiting you’ll have the opportunity to see dolphins, sea turtles, otters, pelicans, stingrays, and more. Many of these animals will be in the rehabilitation process and hopefully released soon, while others will be living in the aquarium for ongoing care.

Two other options are visiting some other nearby attraction areas for great food, views and shopping areas. Drive north from Clearwater Beach to Tarpon Springs for an authentic Greek sponge fishing village (see photo above). Or you can head south to John’s Pass. At John’s Pass you’ll be able to walk to boardwalk for great views of boats headed in and out of the Gulf of Mexico and be surrounded by unique restaurants and storefronts.

After a great day of exploring, take a walk through Clearwater Beach on a souvenir shopping walk to grab some fun souvenirs from your Clearwater Beach family vacation. Enjoy an outdoor dinner at Crabby’s Hideaway as you walk past the shops on your way to Pier 60. After dinner enjoy the live entertainment, shopping, and beautiful sunset views of Clearwater Beach’s Pier 60.

Day 4 – Clearwater Beach Family Vacation

Clearwater Beach Rainbow

  • Breakfast at Another Broken Egg
  • Enjoy the beach or pool before you go
  • Explore Safety Harbor

On your last day visiting Clearwater Beach, Florida, enjoy a few more moments of your family’s favorite activities. Take one more walk on the beach or a few more minutes by the pool, shop at another store or two or explore one more nearby town before heading back out on the highway or to one of the nearby airports. If you want to explore one more place, I recommend Safety Harbor. It’s a beautiful town on the water of Old Tampa Bay. The town is filled with Florida charm. If you’re looking for a bite to eat while you’re there, The NONA Slice House is a well-known restaurant in the area known for delicious pizza and live music.

Airports Near Clearwater Beach, Florida

Clearwater Beach Airports - Tampa International Airport TPA St. Pete - Clearwater International Airport PIE Southwest Airlines Flying over Gulf of Mexico and Honeymoon Island

Clearwater Beach is located just outside of Tampa, Florida. Being close to Tampa gives you a chance to visit many Tampa attractions when you’re staying on longer trips, but for shorter weekend getaways, the best part about being near Tampa is the access to two nearby airports.

Tampa International Airport (TPA)

Tampa International Airport is the biggest airport nearby. If you’re flying in and out of Tampa International Airport, you can find multiple flights daily from all major airlines. Many rental car companies and other ride-booking options are available to travel to and from the airport to Clearwater Beach. The distance from TPA to Clearwater Beach is ~20 miles and takes about 35 minutes without traffic.

St. Pete – Clearwater International Airport (PIE)

St. Pete – Clearwater International Airport is the smaller airport. I love flying in and out of St. Pete – Clearwater International Airport. Traveling between car rental areas and check-in or security areas is smaller and takes much less time. The gates are all very close. The small size makes it quick and easy. There’s a big downside, though – not many airlines fly in and out of St. Pete – Clearwater International Airport. Most of the flights are on Allegiant Airlines. The flight times are usually specific to one flight per day, and depending on the time of year, you may only have a few flights per week. If those days/times work – it’s excellent! Easy to get through, car rentals are steps away, and pick up and drop off are right in front of the check-in areas – the airport’s small size makes life easy if the days/times work for you.

St. Pete – Clearwater International Airport is ~13 miles from Clearwater Beach and takes about 25 minutes without traffic.
